A comeback the Russian player claimed his first championship for nearly 30 months with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the competition title decider.

Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a difficult season, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

The player's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his service game in especial - caused him dropping out of the world's top 10 and ultimately splitting with former coach Gilles Cervara.

Now working with Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has gradually improved in the last few weeks - culminating in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over opponent Moutet.

It is Medvedev's first title since the Rome competition and initial on a hard court from March of the previous year.

The win also means the Russian has won twenty-one victories at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"For the first time I have attended a competition with my two daughters at once, so to secure a trophy is especially meaningful," stated tennis professional Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my second daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I got when my first daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had lost his last six championship matches, comprising in Halle previously this season.

His defensive strategy and recurring reactions on court had prompted observers to question if his capacity to perform at the highest level was over.

But the athlete has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, making an effort to come to the net and perform positively, reinforced by an better serve.

The champion came back from a break down in the initial set against the tricky Frenchman, securing 4 of the concluding five points to gain the advantage.

The competitors swapped service breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, striving for his first tour title, took control to force a final set.

Moutet rescued four early-game chances in a close third set before the champion won the break to that score to close out the victory.

Suitably, he secured victory with a point at the front of the court, with Moutet unable to handle a return after over two and a half hours.
